2.The perception of most Americans is that arranged marriages are an evil, outdated and abusive institution. The statistics, however, may shock you. Over 50% of US marriages, based on the supposedly superior method of choice, end in divorce, with marriage lasting an average of just over 7 years. Only 1% of arranged marriages end in divorce.

Looking at arranged marriage from the inside, we get quite a different perspective. How does Sita view her impending marriage, and her parents' efforts to arrange it? What reasons does she give for her attitude? What qualities are her parents looking for? Are they the same or different than those you would use to judge the acceptability of your child's choice?
