Assignment

 Craft an essay response in which you use the reading "Thirty Years a Slave" and a lyrical song to discuss the identity of poor Southern whites and the effect/implications that the song attempts to convey. Your lyrical piece can come from any genre, any time period. For example, you might highlight how the song shows a consistency or evolution of said identity. Must be 450-550 words and must contain quotes from text and/or song.
