As you finish up your nutrient analysis projects, I want to be sure that you have the following calculations:
After recording each day's food intake, you will tally total calories, total grams of carbohydrate, total grams of protein and total grams of fat.
To calculate percentage of total calories coming from carbohydrate:
Multiply total grams of carbohydrates X 4 calories per gram. This will give you total calories from carbohydrates. Divide calories from carbohydrate by total calories. Multiply your answer by 100. This is your percentage of total calories from carbohydrates.
To calculate percentage of calories from protein:
Multiply total grams of protein X 4 calories per gram. This will give you total calories from protein. Divide calories from protein by total calories. Multiply your answer by 100. This is your percentage of total calories from protein.
To calculate percentage of calories from fat:
Multiply total grams of fat X 9 calories per gram. This will give you total calories from fat. Divide calories from fat by total calories. Multiply your answer by 100. This is your percentage of total calories from fat.
