Topic 1 – Benchmark Assignment: Navigating Your Career Path

Assignment Purpose:

This assignment is designed to guide you in preparing for the transition from college to a career in psychology. It will assess your understanding of career trajectories, roles in psychology-related professions, and your personal career plan.

Directions: Please consider the following questions, conduct research, and answer each question in a minimum of 150 words. Support your responses with scholarly research. Answers can be written on this worksheet under each prompt.

1. Career Trajectories by Degree:

Identify where individuals with a bachelor's degree in psychology typically find employment. Identify the common work settings for those with a master’s degree in psychology.

2. Professions Integrating Psychology:

Identify a profession outside of the traditional psychology field that actively utilizes principles of psychology. Describe how a psychology degree complements the profession identified. Additionally, explore how professionals within these two fields might collaborate and work together to leverage their respective expertise, ultimately benefiting those they are serving.

3. Your Career Plan:

Describe your career plan, including your short- and long-term goals. Consider the degree you must earn, the experience you need to obtain, certifications or trainings, and networking opportunities. Reflect on how your education in psychology will enhance your ability to collaborate with professionals in diverse fields. Describe how you will use psychological knowledge to work effectively with individuals from different disciplines.
