“I describe U.S. settler colonialism as a race-gender project. By that I mean that it transplanted certain racialized and gendered conceptions and regimes from the metropole but also transformed them in the context of and experiences in the New World. What emerged out of the settler colonial project was a racialized and gendered national identity that normalized male whiteness.”
