Journal Instructions

For this analysis, you will reflect on two images found in Chapter 3.1:

tomb fresco with fowling scene

3.1.19 Fowling scene, from the tomb of Nebamun, Thebes, Egypt, 18th Dynasty, c. 1350 BC. Painted plaster, 38⅝ × 8¾”. British Museum, London, England

tomb fresco with banquet scene

3.1.30 Tomb of the Leopards, c. 530–520 BC. Monterozzi Necropolis, Tarquinia, Italy

For each scene, give the culture it's from, the medium it's made of, and what kind of structure it's found in. Then discuss what is shown: what activity is depicted, and who (generally) is shown? What stylistic techniques are used? (Think of vocabulary we've studied.) There should be at least 2-3 that you find in both.

Your discussion should follow this general pattern, and should be about 250 words:

Fowling Scene is a [medium X] from X culture, and is found in a X.

The second scene is a [medium X] from X culture, and is found a X.

They both depict XYZ..., and use [XYZ stylistic characteristics]. [Follow with more discussion/elaboration.]

[Summarize your assessment of their similarities and differences.]

This analysis should be in your own words, based solely on what you have learned in class and in the textbook. Do not copy from any sources, or work with other students on this activity.

Due by 11:59pm at the end of this module. Please type your answer in the journal directly; do not upload a file for this activity.
