1.) Ancient Egyptian art used many symbols.  These symbols were used on coffins, cartouches, tomb walls, even in the writings (hieroglyphs).  Choose one symbol: give the name, what it meant, and where it was often used.  Discuss its importance to the ancient Egyptian people and their culture.  

2.) Explain the ancient native traditions of Japanese art that blossomed in Shinto and Buddhist art and architecture.

3.) Choose one of the following art periods and discuss at least 3 characteristics of that period as well as changes from the previous period.  Name at least two pieces of art or architecture from that period that illustrate the characteristics you discussed.
