ENG 102 Argument Research Paper Guidelines
The Argument Research Paper should contain enough of the objective information that was covered in the Informative paper for the audience to understand the argument analysis that is presented in it (this can usually be done in the first 1-2 body paragraphs). It will also contain an enthymeme analysis of the opposing claims and reasons being made by the stakeholders, weighing out the strengths and weaknesses of each of the opposing enthymemes, and utilize the Toulmin schema to present your argument analysis and argument of your own. Unlike the Informative paper, the Argument paper should take a position or stance on the debate presented in a thesis, make claims supported by evidence from your research throughout your analysis of the opposing enthymemes, and address the opposing arguments in them. All opposing views to your own must be addressed and either disputed or conceded, as well as present your own argument throughout the enthymeme analysis.
The file for the paper must contain the following
