Argument Synthesis

Choose two of the personal essays (PDFs) we have discussed in class to synthesize into an argument of your choosing.

To SYNTHESIZE means to assemble parts into a new whole. The parts are the different sources, each representing a distinct view or views on a  particular topic. The “whole” is your essay in which you explain your position, considering views from the sources that show both (or multiple) sides of the issue.

Your position must be insightful and arguable. In your essay, suppo rt  your thesis with evidence from the text and from 3 scholarly additional research sources. You must cite and reference 3 library-based, peer-reviewed research sources for this project. Use Academic Onesearch, JSTOR, or another database through our library search function (https://www.sfcollege.edu/library/indexLinks to an external site.). Do not stop searching once you have found three research sources; find the most appropriate sources for the assignment. You may use additional high-quality sources once that minimum is met.

You can assume that your classmates have read the literature you are writing about; however, you cannot assume that your classmates have considered the texts or concepts in the same way you have.
