E3 Research/Argument Essay Write a 4-6 page essay that makes an argument and where you support your claims with scholarly research from the databases/library. Please review your comments on previous essays for guidance as to MLA mistakes you may have made in the past—MLA formatting will be a significant part of your grade for this essay.   Here are your prompt options: A. Think about the novel you read for this class. The main character exhibits many behaviors that are destructive. We don’t see him receive any punishment from his caretakers for these behaviors. Take this idea and expand on it. How should children be punished? Should they not be punished at all? What kind of punishment is most beneficial for children? What is “too far”? Craft a well-researched essay that argues one side or the other.   B. Think about the novel you read for this course. The novel is considered young adult literature. It has dark themes and circumstances that occur. Do you see the value in this text through its themes and ideas, or do you believe that the text should not be read by young readers. Should books like this be read by young people who may still be innocent in order to give them experience thinking about dark subjects? Or should we let young people remain innocent for as long as possible? Craft a well-researched essay that argues one side of the argument or the other.  You will need:  -An argument that has two sides -A thesis statement using the model given to you -paragraphs using the claim, data, and warrant model -4 sources of research that will be used as the data in your paragraphs -a paragraph with a counter claim (also using claim, data, and warrant) -an introduction and conclusion that discuss your topic in a broad way and connect to one another -in-text citations that lead to your Works Cited page -a properly formatted Works Cited page with your 4 sources correctly cited   NOTE: your research will be done through the library databases. Your research could only come from outside sources one you’ve met the 4 source requirement.
