NonVerbal Communication

Your annotated bibliography will take the place of a traditional research paper or a review of literature. It will still focus on one major topic area you select from the general category of "Nonverbal Communication". Please select something more specific than one of our major headings. For example, "Proxemics" is far too broad and would yield thousands of results from a computer search. You should narrow the focus to something like, "use of space in dating relationships", or "use of space in office buildings". These are more specific and will allow you to have a more focused analysis. Another approach could be to research the nonverbal elements of something. For example, you could research the nonverbal factors found in successful leaders in business, or politics, or the NV elements used in different ways by different cultures. If you have any questions, I'm happy to talk with you about your choice.

Once you select a topic, look for sources in our on-line library catalog or in the stacks. You will need to identify 10 scholarly sources. You are asked to have an introductory and concluding paragraph for the paper. This will introduce your topic and draw the annotations to a close. Between these paragraphs, you will provide the annotations and evaluations of the ten sources.

Each source should begin on a new page. They will begin with the source citation in APA style. The analysis will be in two parts. The first should be a summary, or abstract, of the material found in the article. The second will be an evaluation of the quality, usefulness, and desirability of the source. You need to answer the questions:  Should I use this source? Why, or why not? It is here you can discuss the quality and appropriateness of the methodology, writing, depth, and scope of the research. Most of these can be done within two pages, double spaced.
