Research Topic: The Significance of the Girl in the Rain (Clarisse)

In, Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury uses symbolism throughout the story. There are many direct and indirect uses of symbolism. The most significant use of symbolism is through the brief interactions between the protagonist Guy Montag and Clarisse Mcllenan. Guy Montag had already been battling his own internal conflict. This sixteen year old girl, changes the way Guy Montag, the fireman, looks at his life, his career and everything he knows to exist.  Clarisse, the girl in the rain, is the most important symbolic character in Fahrenheit 451. Not for whom she is, but for what she symbolizes. By thinking outside the considered norm of the society she lives in and directly impacting Montag, Clarisse represents the little things people may overlook. She is the little bit of happiness and insight Montag needed to change his future.
