Read three books:      Durkheim, Elementary Forms of the Religious Life ( Focus especially )

                                   Eliade, The Sacred and the Profane

                                   Lame Deer, Vision Quest

 Explain how Durkheim agrees with Eliade's analysis of religion's functions and show how he interprets them sociologically.  Then analyze Lame Deer's vision quest from Durkheim's perspective.  [3-4 Pages.]
