1.     Explain the origins of World War II in both the Pacific and in Europe.  How did the United States react when Europe when to war in 1939?  Why did the international community not stop Hitler or the Japanese?  Why did the United States enter the war in 1941? Why did Charles Lindbergh and America First not support going to war in 1941?  Provide specifics from his argument.  What policies and goals did Roosevelt and Winston Churchill agree to in the Atlantic Charter? 

2.     How did the United States prepare for the war on the home front?  How did the American economy adapt to war?  How did Franklin Roosevelt and A. Philip Randolph address racial discrimination in the workforce?  How did women and minorities participate in the war effort?  Why did Roosevelt support the internment of Japanese-Americans? How did Aiko Herzig-Yoshinaga describe her experiences in an internment camp?  Provide specific examples.  Finally, what was Harry Turman’s argument to the American people on why he used the atomic bomb on Japan?  Do you find his argument credible or not?
