American Government

Abraham Lincoln famously referred to the American system as “government of the people, by the people, [and] for the people” (Gettysburg Address). Are “the people” capable of checking the president’s actions? (Here, “check” is used in the Constitutional sense - to limit, to constrain.) Consider the institutional design of the government, motives of elected officials, and what (if any) influence public opinion has over the government’s actions. Please use creative subtopics since this is an important assignment.
