- One of the most useful and usable topics you’ll study this week is scientific notation. Scientific notation helps with calculations of extremes; that is, numbers describing miniscule amounts and numbers describing tremendous amounts. Whether you realize it or not, you likely already use scientific notation, either in your everyday life or in other classes. (You can reflect on what you’ve already learned about scientific notation from your textbook, Section 5.7.)
