Research Paper Guidelines**

Research and write a 6 - 8-page paper on your pre-proposed topic (this does not include your outline and reference page). The paper must include cited references from scholarly journals, books and newspapers.  

All written assignments must be typed, double-spaced using Times Roman 12 point font in MS Word with 250 WORDS PER PAGE. You must use a standard one-inch margin – no Bold-faced or large fonts. Use the style APA, MLA or Chicago that is used in your academic discipline. All pages should be numbered (except the title page). 

Specific Research Paper Requirements

Please note the following specific requirements for the research paper. They are to appear in the

order that they are listed:

1. A Title Page with:
2. The paper title
3. Your name, the course, and the date
4. The professor's name
5. A Research Paper with:
6. Begins with an Introduction
7. Has a well organized Body divided into Sections and Subsections
8. Ends with a Conclusion or Summary
9. A Bibliography

• Paper length refers to the total number of text pages, excluding all figures, graphics, maps, and references. The paper length listed in the syllabus refers to the minimum number of full pages that are required. Papers can exceed this minimum requirement by one or two pages. Please include page numbers only on body of the paper. Title pages, table of contents, references, etc… should not be numbered. 
• The number of sources used in a paper reflects the researcher's level of effort and understanding of the topic, provided they have read the material. The number of sources required for research papers is a function of paper length: 8 page papers should have a minimum of 16 sources, 7 page papers should have a minimum of 14 sources, 6 page papers should have a minimum of 12 sources, etc… All sources listed on the REFERENCES page must be cited in the text. 
• While Internet sources can be a valuable addition to research, no more than 1/2 of sources cited can be Internet web pages.  If using Internet pages as research sources follow the appropriate citation methods. (On-line journals are treated the same as standard journals, not internet sources). 
• Excessive bad grammar, misspellings, and/or poor sentence structure will result in lost points. 
• The use of direct quotations should be limited only to those that add substance to the paper. 
• Be sure to incorporate research from scholarly journals.
