Advocacy

Select an issue, cause or group of constituents about which you are concerned.

Research the evolution of the issue/social problem from it's emergence to the present. This will require an assessment of the current situation and a review of relevant literature (peer-reviewed, research literature). You will need to be able to clearly define the problem, identify the contributing factors to the problem and the key negative consequences if we do nothing about the problem, how many and what groups are affected by the problem, etc. Note evidence in the literature supportive of your position.

Outline the key points of your advocacy and the goals you hope to achieve through your advocacy.

Do some background research on the nature of this venue and what are the expectations regarding presentations in this setting.

1. Write a position paper ( no more than 1000 words)on the issue including your recommendations for change.
