Administrative Ethics (Master's level assignment)

Write a Weekly Response Paper (3-4 pages).  Present analysis and critical thinking about the reading from the week.

The weekly reading is:   

Plato, “The Allegory of the Cave” (online), Machiavelli, selections from The Prince (online) and Mill, selections from Utilitarianism (online)

Below is some questions that should be answered in the paper. It must be in the form of a paper and should not include short answered questions.

• Why does Socrates insist that his philosopher go back down into the cave, despite the clear risk that he will be physically harmed or even killed?
• Why would the prisoners of the cave react to the returning philosopher with such hostility?
• How does the allegory show quality leadership in action? How is the leadership shown poor?
• What is the leadership style of the prince? Is this mode of leadership consistent with the ethical imperatives of the “Allegory”?
• Is the “Prince” an acceptable, ethical model of leadership? If so, why? If not, are there any positive lessons in Machiavelli’s text?
• How do utilitarians make hard choices? Is this an acceptable model?
• What could these three theories learn from each other?
