At first glance, Truman’s speech appears to be quite charitable and motivated by ‘doing good’ in the world. However, what was the political context in which the speech was made? Was there a possible ulterior motive? Also, whose way of life appears to be superior in this speech? What do you think Truman meant by ‘progress’?
