ACTION PLAN ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
The purpose of this assignment is to help you gain experience with a realistic topic/issue in your current position or in a future position you hope to obtain. Use the same topic as your Research Paper Assignment and identify how you will address the problem in your current position or a future position you hope to obtain.
INSTRUCTIONS
Using the provided Action Plan Template, write a brief overview of the topic in one paragraph (at least 4-5 sentences) as an introduction to the plan to demonstrate the significance of the problem and the need for the plan.
Create a written action plan to address the issue in your school or district. An action plan includes specific steps that you would use to pursue the resolution of the issue in your district. Collaborate with others (such as the field expert from your Field Expert Interview Assignment) to determine an appropriate plan to address the issue. Include the following in your plan:
1. The specific action to be taken 2. The timeline for that action 3. The persons responsible for the action 4. The resources needed (financial) for the action
Use search databases such as Academic Search Complete, ERIC, and Education Research Complete to locate the sources for this assignment. Please refer to the Action Plan Grading Rubric for more information on the expectations for this assignment.

In this section, briefly describe the topic and its significance in your school or district. You should include historical information about why and how it became a significant issue in your school or district. Then, include the strategies that are currently being used to address the issue. In this description, you should use scholarly resources to support your ideas. For example, in the current strategies section, you may include research in the field that supports the use of particular approaches to address the issue. This section should be approximately one page.

In this section, briefly describe the overall goal of the action plan. You might explain what program or research-based strategies/interventions that would be implemented in your school or district. Action Plan: Impact of Standardized Testing on Student Achievement
Standardized tests are a critical part of evaluating the effectiveness of educational
programs and ensuring that students have the skills necessary for success in college and in their
careers. Standardized tests serve many important functions, from informing educators what
needs to be addressed through instruction, to providing insight into gaps in learning, to helping
inform decisions about rewards and recognition. Educators can assist students in being
successful in the classroom by providing professional development that equips teachers with the
tools to provide quality instruction that meets the standards set by the tests. Professional
development opportunities should cover content, techniques, and assessment practices that help
students develop the skills and knowledge they need to be successful (Inês et al., 2022). It is also
important to give teachers the tools they need to create a supportive environment in the
classroom that helps motivate students to achieve and sets them up for success on the tests.
Action Plan
Standardized testing plays an important role in measuring student learning and
performance, and it is important for teachers to be trained in preparing students for such tests. A
plan in preparing teachers to assist students with the preparation for standardized tests should
include both professional development and classroom instruction (Inês et al., 2022; Tienken,
2023). Professional development should begin by giving teachers the knowledge of what will be
expected of students in terms of the content areas and be tested. This can be taught through
online courses or face-to-face training (Inês et al., 2022). The training should also include
information on how to use the standardized testing materials, including any practice tests that are
available (Tienken, 2023). Teachers should also be aware of any accommodations and
modifications that may be allowed for students, as well as strategies for helping students prepare

for the test (Ketonen et al., 2020; Tienken, 2023). Finally, the professional development should
include a review of the best practices for administering the test and prepare reports for the school
district or state. In the classroom, teachers should focus on providing students with the necessary
content knowledge (Tienken, 2023). Students should be taught the important concepts that will
be covered on the test and be given practice questions to strengthen their understanding. Teachers
should also be given advice on how to provide students with constructive feedback that will help
them to better achieve their scores (Ketonen et al., 2020). Additionally, it is important to provide
students with information about the expectations for the test and what the consequences of not
doing well are. Finally, teachers should discuss the importance of standardized testing with
students regularly to ensure they understand its purpose. By being trained to properly prepare
them for standardized tests and emphasizing the value of being a successful test taker, teachers
can help students to feel more confident and better prepared to take the test (Ketonen et al.,
2020).
