Ability and Disability in the Parker Case responses

Now we are talking social constructions and disabilities.  I'm sure many of you have seen and heard of this video clip or even saw the press conference where the POTUS was accused of mocking an individual with a disability. Even if he was not mocking this reporter we all know it happens all to often. I'd like to hear your thoughts, what message does it portray. Does it help to change the stigma attached to being a person with a disability when the POTUS is accused of  making this gesture that was perceived as mocking this reporter?

I'd like you to ponder on this statement from another one of my students a few semesters ago...tell me your thoughts

You made a very poignant point, " If we label someone and limit them, we will start acting upon it and treating them like that." This is what social constructs is all about....labels and acting upon those labels (i.e. having certain thoughts and behaviors) based on what society has constructed.
