8 page film script
1. Concept & 3-Act breakdown (1 page) (5 pts)
Write a brief one paragraph description of your concept (story idea) for a 10 minute narrative film. Besides the central idea, your concept description must describe the tone, character trying to do, obstacles, what is at stake, and scope of the narrative. Then, further develop your concept by writing a brief outline that describes the story’s 3-Act structure.
2. Treatment (2-3 pages) (5 pts)
Add some meat to the bones of your outline by briefly summarizing what happens in each scene of your film.
3. Script – First Draft (~10 pages) (10 pts)
Write the first draft of your short film script, in the industry-standard script format. This first draft must contain:
- all scene/location headings (slug lines)
- description of significant visual elements (character actions, significant images, etc.)
- all dialogue and/or spoken narration
- description of any graphic elements (titles, etc.) and special effects
4. Script Notes (5 pts)
Read the second draft scripts written by the other students in your creative group. For each script, give written feedback (notes) to the writer and to Prof Dooley.
5. Script – Second Draft (~10 pages) (5 pts)
After receiving feedback on your first draft, number the scenes and write your second draft.
6. Beat Analysis (5 pts)
Do a beat analysis of your script.
