Topic: A Discussion Over Acceptance and the Path Forward

Write about the dispute that arose between Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois over the differing paths advocated by each man detailing how African Americans should move toward acceptance in the era of Jim Crow. Which individual do you think offered a better chance for long-term acceptance and why? Refer to Washington’s “Address at the Atlanta Cotton Exposition” (Reading 110) and Du Bois’ “A Critique of Booker T. Washington” (Reading 111).
