Self-esteem is how a person evaluates their overall self-worth. People with high self-esteem feel positive about themselves and disagrees with negative statements. Someone with low self-esteem has higher levels of self-doubt and think more negative things about themselves. Self-efficacy is a person’s belief in their ability to complete a task or overcome a challenge. Self-esteem is related to self-efficacy because they are directly correlated. Someone with a high sense of self-worth believes in their abilities over other’s opinions and therefore more likely to have a higher sense of self-efficacy (Baack, 2017)

An example of an external force that would impact self-efficacy is a previous experience. Experiences often lean a person to believe that success will lead to more success. Celebrating small victories are essential when building self-efficacy. An employee who receives praise for getting through a workload of cases will then be more likely to believe they can take on other tasks and succeed. An example of an internal force that impacts self-efficacy is a person’s physical and emotional state at any given time. An employee who has a lot on their plate personally and professions might feel stressed out and lose confidence in their ability to be successful. (Baack, 2017).
