Discussion 1

Describe how the components of the Hawthorne study are incorporated in current human resource functions.

The Hawthorne Studies examined human relations within the workplace. The results were “individual attitudes and collective employee morale were significant determinants of productivity levels.” Baack, D. (2017). Current human resource functions consist of aligning the potential or existing employee with the organizational goals and objectives. This includes; hiring, firing, recruiting, job descriptions, job performance appraisals, and setting policies and procedures in place so that each individual is treated fairly and equally within the organization.

What is the main idea behind this study?

The main idea behind this study is that it “created a dramatic impact on the field of organizational behavior and the practice of management at a more general level.” Baack, D. (2017). As it exposed human relations, organizations felt more compelled to accommodate their employees work environment. If done successfully, the organization would see the results in production and employee morale.

How have you been impacted by the components of this study in your current or past work setting?

My previous Supervisor and I worked very well together. We were able to keep to the deadlines and stay on top of the workload, resulting in having a positive work environment. At times that were stressful, we would crack jokes and not sweat the small things, which would then result in efficiency and accuracy. However, our other team member could not keep up with the amount of work, causing most of the work to land on my Supervisor or myself. For the most part, we would not mind it. At times though, we would get frustrated because she is more than capable of pushing the work out.
