The impact of memory on mental health
McBride, D. M., Cutting, J. C., &; Zimmerman, C. (2022). Cognitive psychology: Theory, process, and methodology. Sage Publications.
This book is a beginning guide for learning about brain science. It shows how scientists study the way we think and make decisions. It concentrates on the scientific methods used to study topics in cognitive psychology. It also helps us understand real-life situations better. It also provides the viewpoint of someone who researches the main topic within this field: cognitive psychology. This source gives a simple idea of how our brain works. Understanding these steps is very key to knowing how memories function. Then this can assist in discovering methods to enhance memory loss issues at mental health centres as well. It assists us in knowing how our brain operates, including memory. This knowledge will assist in learning more about the connections between memory and mental health. This book's main strength is that it thoroughly examines topics in cognitive psychology. It creates a strong knowledge of how our brains operate and think. It uses real-life situations to explain difficult thinking ideas. This makes it simpler and clearer for people who read. But, it doesn't mention forgetfulness much when discussing mental health. So, we need more assistance to connect theory with real-life uses in our heads. Also, it doesn't discuss using thoughts from the science of mind in mental health treatments directly. This requires further study to link what we find out with practical answers for mind issues linked with memory.
Aprilia, A., & Aminatun, D. (2022). INVESTIGATING MEMORY LOSS: HOW DEPRESSION AFFECTS STUDENTS’MEMORY ENDURANCE. Journal of English Language Teaching and Learning, 3(1), 1-11.
This study examines how depression influences students' long-term memory. It examines how teenagers' memory abilities are impacted by depression, making their memories fade faster. Things like work and school stress, along with not completing tasks, can damage our ability to remember. It usually affects short-term memories the most. The study uses a full investigation method with questionnaires. It provides methods to enhance students' long-term memory in learning things. This article discusses how depression impacts memory skills, particularly for students. It tells us how remembering things can make you feel sad. It looks at how issues with mental health can change memories, helping to see why people forget things when they have behavioural problems with their mental wellness. The strength of the study comes from looking at a certain group (students) and connecting depression to how well they can remember things. However, it is helpful to use examples other than the students' group. This can help get better results. Further studies could examine various ages and patient types. This would show how depression changes memory in different places over time.
Schweizer, S., Satpute, A. B., Atzil, S., Field, A. P., Hitchcock, C., Black, M., ... & Dalgleish, T. (2019). The impact of affective information on working memory: A pair of meta-analytic reviews of behavioral and neuroimaging evidence. Psychological bulletin, 145(6), 566.
This research is about how feelings and data impact job memory (WM). It examines how feeling-based information versus simple facts affects our brain and mind's abilities. The study has many parts, showing that feelings have a small effect on memory in healthy people. People who struggle with mental health problems can't focus well on emotional or feeling things as others do. This source studies how feelings impact work memory, paying special attention to the different ways it affects those with mental health problems. It shows the link between emotions and memory, especially in relation to mental health problems. The study is strong because it looks at many studies altogether and shows how thinking about feelings works differently between regular people and those who have mental health problems. However, more research is needed to understand what affects emotional memory. More studies in the future can focus on finding and understanding what changes in how feelings affect memory. This might aid in enhancing memory for individuals with mental health issues.
This review looked at how feelings impact memory using behaviour studies and brain scans. It looks at how feelings or facts affect our memory and brain activity. The studies show weak to small effects of feelings on memory in healthy individuals. The research is good because it looked at many different studies. It showed that healthy people and those with mental health issues felt differently about memory. But, it says we need to do more research on some things that impact emotional memory. Future studies could focus on the things that change how feeling memory works. This will aid us in understanding how to enhance memory for those with mental health issues. By learning more about these shared reasons, we could help with mental health problems tied to memory on a wider scale.
