Your essay is expected to have the following components (its really important to follow them) :

1. Draft a really detailed outline for the essay (very important, it has to be very good)

2. A clear introduction and thesis statement, in which you present your perspective on the topic. If your perspective has changed since reading the relevant arguments, then you should present that in your introduction.

3. Clear evidence paragraphs in which you defend your perspective using both your personal experiences and the course readings dealing with the topic.

4. An effective conclusion in which you revisit your main idea and emphasize what you think is the most important aspect of your argument.

Exam Prompt:

The arguments we read concerning education raised important questions about the purpose and value of a college education. The proper definition of intelligence was a crucial component of several of these arguments. In a clearly organized essay, describe how you felt about your own educational plans before reading these arguments, and then reflect on how your thinking has changed after reading them. You are required to integrate this two following arguments into your essay but DO NOT PUT IN TEXT CITATIONS (im NOT supposed to read the essays while drafting mine since it is a closed-book essay, so it is crucial for you to carefully review the readings before)

Readings:

1. Gerald Graff’s “Hidden Intellectualism.”

2. Mike Rose’s “Blue-Collar Brilliance.”
