Discuss the steps an employer should take to develop and implement its policy regarding employment-at-will?

 COLLAPSE

To ensure that employers don’t get stuck with someone who is not a good fit for the organization, employers will ensure policy regarding employment-at-will is written into all job offers.  They must ensure that the job offer does not specify that the job is guaranteed for a specific amount of time.  Employers want to ensure that new hires are informed that the employer has the right to terminate the employment relationship for legitimate and legal reasons (Heneman & Kammeyer-Mueller, 2018. P. 619).  HR professionals in organizations should also ensure that any employee handbooks or publications do not contain information that could be construed as a contract for a specific time frame.  Organizations should also ensure that employees within the organization do not make statements that may lead a new employee to believe that their employment cannot be terminated at-will.  If an organization does not take steps to ensure that an employee understands that the employment relationship is an at-will one, they may have to defend their actions if an employee takes legal action to prevent termination.
