1. Please read “Understanding other People’s Stories” by Roger Schank.  The text is provided below.

2. I would like you to write an essay in which you use part of Maslow's theory to interpret a character in Steiker's story.  Choose ONE character and write about which level of Maslow's hierarchy of needs that character falls into.  Which level of the hierarchy best explains his or her behavior?  In order to explain this connection fully, you will need to:

• provide context by giving relevant      background information on both Steiker's story and Maslow's theory
• clearly state the specific connection      between the character and the part of Maslow's theory that is the focus of      your paper
• provide detailed examples that help your      reader to see why you think the character is concerned with the needs of      this particular part of the theory
• develop these      examples by explaining how they      are evidence for your idea about the character

The essay should be three pages long and MLA.  Please edit the paper to make sure your idea is clearly explained and then proofread to make sure there are no typos or grammatical errors.  This should be a cohesive, coherent essay that makes sense on its own -- not simple a cut and paste of writing.
