21st Century Policing (CJCB-302-3CW)
As your agency tries to rebuild a positive relationship with the community you serve, your command
staff has asked you to prepare a report that does the following:
1. Discuss each pillar of 21st Century Policing in the following context:
a. For each pillar, discuss how your agency has successfully implemented programs,
policies or ideas that address 21st Century Policing. Explain how the programs, policies
or ideas affect police/community trust.
b. For each pillar, discuss the opportunities for improvement that you see in your
department. Explain how those weaknesses may be impacting your agency’s legitimacy.
Recommended minimum word count for Section 1: 1000 words.
2. Identify an area where your agency has an opportunity to use concepts from 21st Century
Policing to implement a program, policy or idea that may increase the community’s trust in your
agency. Please be sure to answer the following questions in your proposal:
a. Fully explain the program and which pillar it relates to.
b. How would you implement the program? What resources will you need?
c. What do you expect the outcome of the program to be and what challenges do you
forsee?
d. How will this program address or improve police legitimacy in your community?
e. Why do you think the program will be successful? Are there examples of similar
programs that have been implemented?
Recommended minimum word count for Section 2: 600 words
3. Utilize at least three resources (studies, surveys, news articles from credible sources) to back up
your work in the above sections. For example, is there a program evaluation that shows another
department has been successful with a program similar to what you are proposl
