In Julia Corbett's article, she states that companies who use plastics, chemicals, and oil use nature as a backdrop to sell their products. I agree with her because after examining different ads, the companies definitely use nature in the background for profit. Whenever I see "green" or "eco-friendly" I think it is complete bogus because is it really organic? When the sellers show that kind of advertising, the buyers don't view it as "greenwashing" and they're buying products thinking it is really organic. It amazes me how many people believe the advertisements.
I looked at a couple car commercials to see if I see greenwashing. And I did. I looked at many different commercials and a lot of them were cars moving on the road with plants or the sun in the background. As the car would approach a certain area of nature, everything would seem like it's coming to life. I don't have a lot of knowledge in the automotive area, but I get the sense that companies use the nature background for their benefit. For the most part, I think people buy because they think they are helping the environment, and maybe they are, but I think chemicals are used in some way.

In Julia B. Corbett’s article, A Faint Green Sell: Advertising and the Natural World it states that advertisers use nature/environment in some way to attract people to their products. When companies claim through their advertisement that their products are “Organic,” “Recyclable,” “Environmentally-friendly,” or “Eco Friendly” when in reality their products are the complete opposite. Such companies sell oil, chemicals, or plastics use advertisers to manipulate nature into their ads as a way to send messages about their product. They make the audience believe that they are reconnecting with nature if they were to buy the product when in reality they are still disconnected from nature. They use nature-as-backdrop because they are trying and are succeeding into giving audience to see the product as something that is helping the environment and making them feel better about the type of bond they have with nature if they were to buy it when the whole situation is just causing damage. Companies have us believe that their usage of nature is a way of showing their care for it when deep down viewers know that they are just pretending for their benefit.
In car ads such as for the Toyota Prius commercial, the makers of the ad decided to replace humans driving the car with birds driving it. For me this states that if animals think that its fine with driving the Pruis to “Go Green” then it’s appropriate to purchase the car and drive it around. The birds replacing humans can also state that the car is good for the environment and nature is fine with it.

Fan Forum Analysis

For the Fan Forum analysis I have chosen the present TV show Riverdale. I decided to analyze Riverdale because the show had caught my attention by giving me the feeling of anticipation of what is going to happen next in the upcoming episodes. The community is friendly, welcoming, and supportive as there are fans who love the show and are really into trying to figure out what is going to happen next in the show and who is going to be in a relationship. There are many fans who are divided by which relationship they support and wish that they last forever. Examples are Bughead, Barchie, Varchie, Beronica, Jarchie, etc.
This show has captured the attention of female population including me by numerous of reasons. First reason, during the entire first season the audience feels mixed emotions about what is happening and the sudden plot twists. Second reason, is during the season audience are at the edge of their seats as they watch Archie and his friends try to solve the mysterious death of Jason Blossom and they also start to solve the mystery. Another reason, is the everyone in the show has secrets and the female audience can’t wait to know what those secrets are. What also catches the attention of young and teenage girls is the relationships developing during the show and waiting for their favorite couple to get together and last for the entire season/s such as couples like Veronica and Archie, Betty and Jughead, or Betty and Archie. Final reason, the show provides the female audience handsome guys such as Archie and Jughead. Because I along with others, were brought to the show by these reason, I would participate because I would like to have conversations about the show with other fans and know their thoughts.

I choose the TV show Riverdale for my forum. I do watch the show, therefore I found it easy to understand the dynamic the community held within themselves. The community was very supporting and friendly to each other. One blogger would post a sequence of pictures from the show and other bloggers graciously raved about it. They also shared what other show they were currently binge-watching which I found intriguing because I can take those into consideration as well. Fans in this forum seem to be interested in matching characters together and creating a “ship name” for them. For example, there is a “Jarchie” thread for Jughead and Archie, a “Bughead” thread for Jughead and Betty. The Riverdale community shows most interest in post with photo strip from the show. They have long threads where they hold contest every week to see whose photo strip is the best. The conversation remains on the show for the most part. Only once did they talk about something other than the show and even that conversation began because of a scene on the show. I am drawn to join the conversation because as I said before, I watch the show, so I know what they’re talking about. Everyone is also very polite and supportive which doesn’t make me feel like I should stay on the outskirts. These forums allow people with similar interest to interact and create friendships through social adhesion. People from all over the world could be watching a show through television and these forums allow for communication. Many of these fans use the web to interact with each other and give moral support on edits, idea, even predictions they believe based on the show.
