- The differences I would conclude of these two organizations would be that the Commonwealth Health Corporation is a not-for-profit health system. They make up not only a hospital but provide many different aspects for the care and well-being of their patients. They are a public institution run by the community. Graves Gilbert is a private clinic of multiple specialties. They aren’t necessarily all one unified front, it’s not an in-patient sort of facility. You may see different specialists all in one place, but it is not like a hospital where they all come to you.
- I believe they both have very similar missions. They want to care for the community and do what they can to benefit the community. Graves Gilbert specifically wants to be like a one stop shop where when you have something go wrong, that’s who you call. Since they formed, they have gone from a few different physicians to as many as 50 all while expanding to create more offices and even urgent care clinics. We have our own little piece of Graves Gilbert here on campus as our Health Services building.
- I haven’t really had any experiences with The Medical Center. I have had a few friends who went there and neither of them mentioned having a bad experience. They were seen rather quickly and efficiently and sent on their way. I have had a few run-ins with Graves Gilbert Clinic. I have been to Health Services a couple of times where I was seen quickly, and they tend to call to check up on me days later. I also have a friend who saw one of their specialists when she had some health problems going on last year. She mentioned how friendly all the doctors were and how they would reach out after the fact to see if she was improving. I would say that each place is living up to their mission statement. They are both very successful businesses that have expanded over the years and are continuing to expand.

1) Two essential differences between these two organizations is Med Center Health (in Bowling Green) has 337 beds for patients to stay within the hospital. Graves Gilbert is more of an outpatient clinic that typically has the 8:30-5 business day hours. Another difference I saw between the two health care providers was that the Medical Center has six different hospitals, in Kentucky, that is including acute care, critical care, and long-term care. Each location offers a variety of specialties and you can go to any of the locations and receive a variety of care within that hospital. Graves Gilbert however, has eleven different locations and many of them only offer only a couple specialties per building. For example, the Medical Arts building only offers gastroenterology, family medicine, and general surgery. If you needed a different specialty, you would have to go to the building that offers the specialty that you were looking for.
2.) 2.) In their mission statements, Graves Gilbert states that they want “to be the preferred and preeminent provider of quality healthcare services in south central Kentucky.” Their goal is “to provide sensitive, compassionate care to our patients with respect to total well-being of the individual” (Graves Gilbert). While the Medical Center’s mission statement is “to care for people and improve the quality of life in the communities we serve” (Commonwealth Health Corporation). Both of these organizations want to strive to improve their patients life. Their mission statements seem to have similar goals; however, it seems as if Graves Gilbert wants to be the best.
3.) 3.) I have gone to the Graves-Gilbert clinic here on campus. Everyone in the office was kind and professional. With students always being in close proximity, it’s helpful to have a clinic here on campus that is accessible to students, especially when it’s flu season!
