CULTURE : Arab and Muslim American Culture

QUESTION #1 

I find children's stories and story telling very insightful to culture.  Teaching your young is such a fundamental function of culture that children's stories show us what morals they are trying to teach and reinforce, and even they way the story is told can tell us a lot about what interactions are valued, or not.  So find a children's story from that culture and try to pick out how the culture is speaking through the story.  With an open mind, hungry for more information about a culture you have by now learned lots about, open the book (or listen to the story if on video) and learn.  Provide us the book, source, and what you have learned about the culture through the interactions with this story.  

(this assignment was inspired by a group project where a student group used a Indian children's story to provide insight into the culture they were presenting on)

QUESTION 2 : 

So early on in the course we experienced the important role music plays in cultures and the connections people have to their cultural music.  For this exercise I want you to research music that is important to the culture you were assigned to.  It won't be enough to just look up any song but you will have to find support why the particular song you have posted for that culture is important.  You need to describe and post the source you are relying on/what directed you to this particular song.  And of course you must post the song as well.
