Aim at critical and thoughtful conclusions. Style Each author is responsible for the quality of the presentation. If you feel that you need serious help in writing a paper, you are urged to use the ASU Writing Center help and consultation (a MUST for non-native speakers!). You can also consult: M. Sherzer, The Elements of Grammar (New York: Macmillan, 1986) and W. S. Strunk and E. B. White, The Elements of Style (New York: Macmillan, 1979). For formatting please follow The Chicago Manual of Style. Your paper MUST include: a) title (be creative) b) clear, concise and well-constructed writing -- clear, logical, adequate description of arguments -- thorough discussion -- correct grammar (complete sentences) -- keep most sentences in natural word order (subject, verb, complement) -- keep to one tense (use past tense most often) -- omit needless words, fancy words, slang, colloquial formulas (I’ve, it’s, etc.) -- avoid passive voice and other impersonal constructions -- omit abbreviations (numbers are written out) -- first and last names of all persons at first mention, last names for subsequent mentions -- do not use social titles such as Dr. and Mrs. c) coherent organization use headings and subheadings d) correct spelling and punctuation (run your computer’s spell check) e) accurate quotations with page numbers Plagiarism-Self-Plagiarism/Academic Integrity If your papers are not written by yourself or include UNIDENTIFIED TEXT PORTIONS (key parts of a sentence, whole sentences, paragraphs, or even whole pages) copied from various sources (books, articles, websites, etc), you are committing plagiarism. Plagiarism is THEFT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, i.e. theft of other authors’ carefully expressed and composed thoughts by avoiding quotation marks and citation of the source thus pretending that the texts are your own products. Cases of plagiarism will be subject to the strongest possible disciplinary sanctions. There are NO REWRITES and this incident will be immediately reported to the Director of Undergraduate Studies. You will FAIL the class and an “E X” WILL APPEAR IN YOUR TRANSCRIPTS revealing you as a dishonest student. This could do great damage to your career f) avoid excessive quotation (limit: 20% per page) EXCESSIVE QUOTATION WILL LOWER YOUR GRADE

i want the topic on bach 6 sonata and partita of solo violin

A few guidelines for research papers Focus on a work or a group of works preferably from the listening assignment or choose a compositional technique/style/aesthetic of the Baroque era and write either a historically oriented paper. The paper MUST comprise 8 pages (undergraduates) or 10 pages (graduates) including a cover page, and abstract, the main text (5/7 pages minimum) and a bibliography. If you choose to discuss a specific work consider the composer’s historical, cultural and biographical situation and how it affected his/her creative activities, consider compositions in the context of other works (by the same author, by others) and styles at that point of the composer’s life, explore the compositional workings (structure, harmonic features, textures, text setting, instrumentation etc.), the reception of the work(s) and cultural/critical contexts.

its fine if you find only 5 to 6, because i have some sources which i want to add by myself

i'll add something based on the paper you help me, because the professor want us to add some information in the class

yes and it also includes the cover paper so the main text may just 5 pages

You need to locate at least 10 topic specific sources in addition to your very general textbooks, music appreciation books, books you have at home (bible, cookbooks, etc.) or internet information. I will judge the number and quality of the sources you locate and how you use them in your paper. Needless to say that I will not accept dubious internet sources such as Wikipedia articles as part of your bibliography. When you do research, I invite you to be critical. Different musicians, different analysts, different historians, can propose very different views of a work or a subject. If you read something which does not agree with your understanding of the work, you should take this as an opportunity to test your views
