Quantitative Research Study Critique Introduction

The research study under evaluation is titled "The Impact of Domestic Violence on Children." There are several issues in domestic or family violence, but this one pertains to the impacts of domestic violence on children who fall within the scope of intimate partner violence (Eriksson, &Ulmestig, 2021). The critique considers different aspects of the study, suitability of the title to describe the research, the credibility of the author, the ability to use the literature review, coherence between research strategy and, suitability of the methodological approaches and designs, consideration for internal validity. This research adds greatly on the knowledge that pertains to the effects faced by children in houses of domestic violence which is highly significant for social work practice.

Problem statement Intimate Partner Violence is an established phenomenon in

contemporary life. This confirms that children suffer emotional and psychological impacts when they are exposed to violent fights or direct victims in their home environments. This distress presents itself through manifestations like anxiety, depression, and behavioral disturbances. It is important to know how domestic violence affects children and how to develop appropriate intervention measures for children who are exposed to these types of abuses (Eriksson, &Ulmestig, 2021). Nonetheless, though numerous studies have examined how domestic violence impacts adult survivors, not much has been said about how different this is from children who are living in such families. Through a comprehensive review, this research investigates the negative effects of child abuse caused by intimate partner violence to offer informed recommendations on individualized interventions that can help support these victimized children.

Research question The primary research question guiding this study is: What

are the impacts of Domestic violence on children, and what are the best-specialized interventions that may aid in meeting their unique needs? In this regard, the question aims to explore the intricate experiences of children in homes prone to domestic violence in terms of their health and general welfare. The study intends to answer this question to add to the knowledge regarding the wider implications of domestic violence within families, with special reference to the unique difficulties that children go through.

Literature Review Title and authors

Peterson's (2022) “How Housing Barriers Affect Survivors of Domestic Violence,” is a thorough analysis of how housing barriers affect people who suffer through domestic violence. Post-abuse recovery from their experience, which includes housing stability, is the focus of the article. Peterson skillfully situates the problem within the larger realm of domestic violence and illustrates the profound impact of appropriate housing on the general safety and health of survivors.

The article provides a comprehensive overview of existing literature on different challenges survivors face while looking for safe and secure housing. This study, therefore, provides some useful information in terms of how people view domestic violence and their link with house barriers discussion. Nonetheless, further exploring options and means to overcome the housing problems would enlarge our understanding of this problem in the article.

Strategy of Research This study has an explorative quantitative approach aimed

at evaluating if housing issues influence domestic violence victims. Firstly, it has worked very well with this research question – “What is The impact of domestic violence on children?” Taking an exploratory approach will involve a more holistic analysis of the complexities around domestic violence and housing barriers.

Methodological Approach and Design As this research question would allow the utilization of a

quantitative approach, the use of a systematic data collection process would allow the analysis of statistical relationships between housing barriers and survivors of domestic violence (Peterson. 2022). Because of this, the research design is appropriate since it allows for gathering numeric information, enabling an answer to the research question. Nonetheless, the study must adopt some qualitative traits, e.g., the stories of survivors, to present an in-depth assessment of the occurrences.

Threats to Internal Validity There should be information in the article about possible

problems of internal validity. This information needs to be improved; however, it does not reduce the overall quality of the paper. Such an addition would improve the research’s rigor and transparency. Having such information would enhance confidence in the results of the study as it would show how the authors handled potential bias and confounding factors.

Application to Practice This study has immense implications for social work

practice, especially on domestic violence interventions and support. Tailor-made interventions are informed by understanding the depth of housing barriers upon survivors. Domestic violence survivors need secure houses that are accessible through social work activists. It is also important to work with health resource providers as well as policymakers on the same issues. The integration of this information in practice helps make intervention more survivor-oriented and effective. In summary, these findings are crucial and must be incorporated into the practice of social work.

Addressing the research question The research offered presents vital insights into the adverse

consequences experienced by adult survivors who have been exposed to domestic violence. However, there is a significant lack of knowledge concerning the specific effects on children who are either witnesses to or direct victims of such violence. The research generally centers on the experiences and difficulties encountered by adult individuals who have survived adverse circumstances, neglecting to adequately address the unique implications experienced by children residing in affected households. Comprehending these consequences is important to formulate precise interventions and support systems that address the distinct requirements of this susceptible demographic.

Future studies should endeavor to address this disparity by investigating the discrete psychological, emotional, and developmental ramifications experienced by children within these contexts. By directing attention towards this pivotal population, research endeavors can contribute to a more holistic comprehension of the wider ramifications of domestic violence on familial units and provide valuable insights for tailored interventions aimed at assisting children who have been impacted. Furthermore, it is imperative to investigate the possible impact of early intervention programs in disrupting the intergenerational cycle of violence.

Refined research question Upon review of the various literature on the effect of

domestic violence, I would narrow down my question to focus explicitly on the intricate issues that arise among children whose families experience domestic assaults at home (Sullivan, et al., 2023). Much of the literature on this topic focuses on the experiences of adult survivors while overlooking the unique impacts of abuse during childhood. To address this gap, my refined research question would be: What are the specific psychological, emotional, and developmental effects that come about when a child goes through or views such violence, and what kind of specialized intervention will they benefit from? This is a more refined research question focused on exploring how children in affected households experience things in their lives and society. This helps to reveal how exposure to domestic violence affects their psychological, social, and health growth patterns (Eriksson &Ulmestig, 2021). Narrowing the scope of the research question will give more insight into lasting consequences for kids in similar settings.

To conclude, the above-refined research question highlights the distinct outcomes for children exposed to domestic violence. The aim is to give useful information about how to design bespoke interventions as well as early intervention programs that focus on improving the situation of these at-risk young people’s health and resilience.
