How does your study compare to previous work on gamer motivation?

· Students will study their motivational cluster from paper 2 and compare new survey results to previous ones.

· The study results and conclusions will be presented in an informative report.

Objectives

· Write a 5-7 page informative report of the group’s survey results and compare them to previous research.

· The report must contain all elements: intro with hypothesis, literature review, methods, results, and conclusions.

· Groups will collect data using the Gamer Motivational Profile. Each student must complete the survey and provide the results (for an in-class assignment ). Each group member must get 5 unique and new results from outside; this number does not count the group members, class, or any provided surveys.

· The report must use data collected from group members, using the Gamer Motivation Profile from Quantic Foundry.

· The report must contain one bar graph that presents the group’s study results. It must be formatted and integrated using APA guidelines.

· The paper must have a useful intro. The intro sets up the topic and the hypothesis.

· The paper must have a clear and focused literature review.

· This will use source material from Paper 2 (NOT material copied and pasted from Paper 2), as well as data found from the Quantic Foundry website.

· The material will be presented in clear and focused paragraphs (not one paragraph) that are logically ordered.

· The methods section will go over the survey used and the group’s work to gather results.

· This will be logically organized over several paragraphs (a minimum of three).

· The results will present the data collected by the group.

· Each paragraph will be a story told by the data. These will include different demographics views and comparisons of those views. A minimum of three stories must be presented.

· Each story will be its own paragraph, and these will be logically organized.

· The graph will be properly integrated in the results section.

· The conclusions will synthesize the info from the literature review and the results.

· Each conclusion drawn from synthesizing literature review info and study results will be presented in its own paragraph.

· Focus on only the age and gender demographics (make sure to have a minimum of two groups for each demographic).

Directions

· Go back to the last Paper and see what sources may help in writing this next Paper. You do not have to use all of them, but you will certainly use some.

· Get sources from  Quantic FoundryLinks to an external site. to help provide data on the motivators and demographics. 

· Decide if there is enough info to provide an audience info about what the demographics think about the motivators and at least one clear reason why (for each). If there is move on. If not, find additional college appropriate sources to fill out the info. Quantic Foundry's experts have done MANY scholarly essays, and Nick Yee also write a book, that you can find in the library. 

· Take the sources and create a full APA references page.

· Start with a correct APA title page.

· Have the References page follow, making sure to conform to APA formatting and citation guidelines.

Directions

If you have it, start with the draft you were working on in class. If not, use the Intro and hypothesis draft.

· After the intro paragraph, present your completed literature review.

· This will cover several paragraphs, at least four, possibly more.

· Make sure each paragraph starts with a topic sentence that presents a single focused idea about your motivators and demographic. For example, this particularly demographic feels this way about my first motivator because...

· For each paragraph, make sure to use your source info to illustrate the topic sentence. Info can include the Quantic Foundry data, data from other sources, info from sources--including Quantic Foundry-- on what a demographic feels and why, etc. 

· Make sure that you explain and interpret the source material you present.

· Explain how the source material goes together to illustrate the topic sentence. 

· Cite all source material following APA guidelines.

· Summarize and bring all of the material together in a "concluding" paragraph that ends with your hypothesis.

· Submit this is full APA format.

· Write your first paragraph to introduce your study. In that paragraph make sure to do the following

· Introduce the topic (motivators and their importance to different demographics.

· Present the general idea found about the motivators from previous studies.

· Present your study: what will you do for your study (keep in mind the audience has NO idea what you are doing).

· Outline what you think you will cover in your literature review. Have a summary sentence for each point. 

· Know what points you think will be important to have from all previous research (not just paper 2).

· Helps in understand what you are doing and why.

· Clarifies what is already known or accepted, as well as anything that may affect the info today. 

· Organize over several paragraphs.

· At the end of the outline, write out your current, working hypothesis. It must do the following

· State the basic findings from the experts on your motivators and demographics

· Notate that your study should have similar results. 

· Put this in APA format with a title page. 

· Add your references page after this material.

Directions

· Start the Methods section after the Intro and Literature Review in your Paper 3 report. Have a heading to start the section.

· Develop the paragraphs that describe your study and its process to your audience. This will be a minimum of three body paragraphs (many will have 4-6).

· Material should include a summary of the survey and how it works (as much of the expanded audience will not have taken it), how your group collected ALL of your responses, and who took your survey. 

· Paragraphs should be focused and manageable, focusing on one point. This can lead some paragraphs to be relatively short at 3 sentences. 

· Provide specific descriptions and process info. 

· The only citations will you need will be survey info from the Quantic Foundry website. Cite this source material following APA guidelines.

· After the Methods, insert your required bar graph (and any other additional graphs you made using your data).

· Make sure they have a label and number (in bold).

· Make sure they has a descriptive title (in italics).

· Make sure they have useful axis titles and legend.

· Make sure they are easy to read and understand.

· Add a Note if necessary after the graphs.
