Remember the

Week 9 - Youth Sport

Discussion Topic Task: Reply to this topic

This is the week that you most likely have seen one or several of the selected films, and many of you can relate in some familiar way with some aspect and character in the movie.

You were to watch the Sandlot and a 2nd movie (Remember the Titans or Friday Night Lights).

1) In what ways did you see themes and characteristics mentioned by Crosson (2013)? This may include concepts about hegemony, race, gender, power, class, etc.

2) What concepts from the films did you just think were too artificial for a movie?  Any aspects of the film that turned you off to youth sports?

3) Was there any situation in the movie that you can specifically identify with?  How did you handle a similar situation, and how did the character handle it? How does humor/comedy impact the scene and themes of the movie?

4) Feel free to add other items that you found interesting or unique to the film.

10-1 Discussion: The Impact of Future Trends

Previous Next

Review the module resources. Then, in your initial post, address the following:

  • What HR functional areas within the technical competency domain of people do you believe will be impacted the most by future trends? How?
  • What HR functional areas within the technical competency domain of workplacedo you believe will be impacted the most by future trends? How?
  • What HR functional areas within the technical competency domain of organization do you believe will be impacted the most by future trends? How?

Module Nine, we examined inwardly focused risk-management activities, HR audits, and background and reference checks. We further delved into the risk-management analysis by exploring the outwardly focused activity of business continuity planning. We examined SHRM toolkits that provided informative reviews of these topics. You also submitted your final project, a strategic HR plan.

For this module, we will explore changes in the workplace and external environment and their impact on HR future trends. We will examine global interdependence, virtual teams, global talent management, cultural differences, skill gaps, and corporate social responsibility.

Approximately half (46 percent) of workers surveyed said they chose to become a nontraditional worker, and another 28 percent said nontraditional work was the best option for them. Companies are realizing this change, with 32 percent of HR and executive leaders recognizing “workers opting for nontraditional employment” to be one of the top reasons for building an agile workforce model. (Society for Human Resource Management Foundation, 2016, p. 4)

To prepare for the Module Ten discussion, read Five Key Trends from SHRM’s Special Expertise Panels and Report: The Future of Work. In this class discussion, you will analyze the HR functional areas within the technical competencies that will be impacted through future trends. You will engage in a discussion with your classmates regarding the behavioral competencies needed to prepare for and handle future workplace trends from an HRM perspective.
