In this activity, you will define health communication. You will use the Health Belief Model to assess the motivation of your population from your campaign. You will explore how theory can guide your health communication strategy. This activity provides you an opportunity to connect theory to real-world practice as you consider strategies for an effective health communication campaign.

   

  • Define health communication. List out the components of developing a health communication plan.
  • Put yourself in the shoes of a person in your defined population and consider the six parts of the Health Belief Model. How do you think this person would respond to the following questions?   
  • What may this person consider to be benefits of taking action to reduce or stop behaviors that perpetuate the health condition?
  • What may be barriers to changing the behavior for this person?
  • What calls to action does this person have to motivate a change in behavior?   
  • Does this person possess self-efficacy in his or her ability to make a behavior change?
  • How does using the Health Belief Model guide your recommendations for an effective health communications strategy?
