SCS 224 Creating a Research Question Hierarchy Web Activity Guidelines and Rubric
How do you start answering broad questions? You begin with exploration and investigative deconstruction. In this assignment, you will develop a web of questions that spawn from an initial question and then organize those questions. This process should help you see how to make the complex more finite (from really complicated to something simple and easy to approach).
Prompt
Examine the list of research questions below. After reviewing the list, choose a question that stands out to you. Then, create a web of questions that spawn from one another, breaking down the broad question into smaller, more manageable questions. Do this web creation for as many divisions and subdivisions as you see fit, and organize your questions based on the following questions:
- How do younger and older Americans differ in their perceptions of major social problems?
- To what extent does partisan identity shape perceptions of issues like immigration, climate change, and the economy?
- How do cultural beliefs shape attitudes toward issues such as drug addiction, crime, and education?
- How do economic pressures, such as inflation and healthcare costs, impact family stability and decision making?
- How do different sources of information shape public opinion about major social issues?
- How do race and ethnicity influence perceptions of issues such as racism, crime, and economic inequality?
- How do concerns about national security, such as terrorism, compare to domestic issues in shaping public opinion?
- How does digital media influence public perceptions of major social problems?
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
- Create a web of relevant questions that stem from the broad question selected.
- Choose an initial question from the list above and create a web of questions.
- Break down the question into divisions and subdivisions.
What to Submit
Submit the assignment as an outline or graphic that clearly lists the divisions and associated questions. All sources should be cited according to the latest guidelines for APA format.
