NUR 500 – Assignments and Rubrics
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Introduces students to Strayer University and to the requirements for successful engagement in an online
nursing graduate program. Provides a foundation for the student’s academic and professional success
and includes topics related to information literacy, effective technology use, and graduate-level scholarly
writing.&Course assignments focus on self-development and on the practical application of writing and
critical reasoning skills, and the integration of professional nursing practice with Master’s level of
academic success in nursing. Students explore frameworks and professional standards and guidelines,
including the AACN Masters Essentials, as applied to their program of study.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Demonstrate professional written and oral communication skills and critical reasoning in written
work and oral presentations.
2. Compare and contrast the benefits and drawbacks of pursuing nursing graduate study in an
online environment.
3. Examine time management principles, approaches, and strategies and identify personal best
practices.
4. Conduct a self-assessment related to graduate study skills and competencies.
5. Construct a Personal Success Plan that applies critical thinking, leverages personal strengths,
and identifies potential challenges to academic and professional success.
6. Identify the technology and information literacy skills necessary for independent function in an
online learning environment.
7. Understand the basic elements of the nursing research process and its applications to quality
improvement and safety in healthcare settings.
