Research and describe Florida current statutes for the role of PMHNP.
According to Registered Nursing (2019), a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner
(PMHNPs) is an "advanced practice registered nurse who provide comprehensive mental health
care to patients suffering from behavioral problems and mental health disorders." In the state of
Florida, the PMHNP program seeks to educate APNs who can demonstrate effective decision-
making skills and critical thinking in providing care to individuals and families suffering from
mental health issues. PMHNPs are also responsible for managing the direct care of patients
experiencing chronic health problems.
Do you agree with the state statutes? If not, how would you like to see them change? What
do you feel needs to change to support your views?
I fully agree with Florida's statutes for PMHNP because essentially, they focus on developing
professionals who can effectively employ evidence-based psychiatric care to individual and
families in psychiatric as well as primary care settings. However, I would wish to see a number
of changes that I believe can prepare and empower PMHNPs to better treat psychiatric-mental
