Numerous aspects need to be considered when it comes to the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)
policy. For example, what kind of device are we allowing the employee to bring in? Can this device
be supported? Can the BYOD be somewhat standardized? If an employee wants to use a mobile
phone for corporate usage, we need to think about how this can be allowed and not compromise
any corporate data. Something that can be put in place is standardization. Although we have the
Android and iOS platforms, there has to be a way to provide some support. There are many flavors
to choose from when it comes to Android, especially when it comes to the manufacturer.
Different manufacturers can have a slight difference in the Android operating system. For example,
the settings menu can differ for LG, Google, and Samsung phones. This can be a challenge when an
administrator wants to provide support and implement security. On the other hand, many
companies opt to allow only iPhone. Why? Because it would be easier to implement security and
provide support. When accepting a personal device, there has to be a compromise from the
