Two risks that I am familiar with are domain name system (DNS) data leaks and
(DNS) hijacking. In attempts to hide VPN traffic, such as IP addresses, information can
still leak sometimes when DNS queries go outside the VPN tunnel or somehow the VPN
server is not recognized and is ignored or just simply bypassed. When a hijacker
(hacker) infiltrates the system through re-routing users from the actual site desired to a
site that is actually a designed trap which may consist of assorted ads and possibly even
malware.
The huge mass of data handled on the internet, and other public networks daily,
attribute to the development and ongoing evolution of the software and
other associated parts of the VPN universe. With so much information being accessible, there
is no wonder that so many risks exist. In theory the VPN
designated traffic is to only transmit from VPN sources to other VPN destinations. This is
made so through the process of encyrption. Although a challenge,
there are ways to fix and prevent some VPN issues. One option is to research and find a VPN
service that offers leak protection, as there are some currently on
