Insider threat refers to the possibility that an insider will utilize their allowed
access or knowledge of an organization to harm it (cisa.gov).Malicious,
complacent, or inadvertent activities that compromise the integrity, confidentiality,
or availability of the company, its data, staff, or facilities are examples of this harm
(cisa.gov).
According to Network World, insider risks exist, and they're not
uncommon.According to a poll done by the US Secret Service, the CERT
Coordination Center (CEFa"/CC), and CSO magazine, 20% of electronic crimes
were committed by insiders in circumstances where respondents could identify the
culprit.Insiders' losses from crimes and security breaches can be enormous,
because they know exactly where to go for access to financial accounts or
proprietary information, as well as how to get beyond existing security measures
(Network World).
