Point-to-point –It is the simplest network topology in which to nodes are
connected together directly with a common link. The actual length of a
cable is used to establish the connection.
Bus –Bus topology refers to the network type in which every network
device and computer is connected to a single cable. It can transmit data
from one point to another in just one direction.
Ring –In the ring network topology, a ring connecting device is formed
with the two neighbouring devices. It allows transmission in a
unidirectional manner.
Star – In a star topology, all the devices are linked to a single hub via a
cable. The hub acts as the central node to which all the other nodes are
linked (Types of network topology. GeeksforGeeks, 2021).
Mesh –In the mesh network topology, every device is linked to another
device by using a specific channel (Point to point topology - advantages &
disadvantages: Network topology. Computer Network Topology, 2020).
In the automation industry, the ring network topology is considered to be
extremely useful because it mainly assists in the wired industrial
automation networks. It is useful due to its low latency as well as top
reliability. These attributes make it ideal for preventing looping as well as
handling link failures as compared to conventional techniques (Types of
network topology. GeeksforGeeks, 2021).
