I chose ethics and policy-centered security. People's personal information is stored in the systems of
both health care and financial organizations, where it can be accessed and used by employees.
Employees from both organizations are held to a higher standard of ethics because they know that
stealing personal information is against the rules. All the policies that the two organizations have put in
place to keep all the personal information secure are policy-centered security. Health care organizations
and financial institutions have different ethical principles because the types of information they need to
keep private are different. These organizations also have other codes in place to prevent employees
from leaking information. Organizations can have policies centered on security that their employees can
see and know to follow so that no data is given away.
The health care organization, I believe, will have the most difficulty putting the principles into practice
on a continuous basis. Under HIPPA law, a person takes an oath to keep personal information private. I
think the line between what is acceptable and what is not will always be unclear because some personal
information can be given out to family members but not others. Because every situation is unique,
people can become misled and end up doing something they shouldn't.
