Subject: The proposal of a new decision support information system for the company
Introduction
In the dynamic business setting, decision support systems (DSS) play a key role for
organizations as they help in making important decisions that require judgement, analysis, and
a sequence of actions. The innovative information system aids top management and middle
management to evaluate a huge volume of raw data, convert it into valuable information and
solve problems by making informed decisions.
Proposed Information System
The blueprint of the proposed decision support system has been presented below:

Functions Important to Business
The proposed decision support system would conduct diverse functions that would be of high
importance for the company. Some of the critical functions include collecting and analyzing real-
time data, automating managerial processes, streamlining internal communication processes,
and making efficient and timely decisions. The functions that could be carried out would help the
company to optimally use data and make informed strategic decisions (Decision support system
(DSS). Corporate Finance Institute, 2021).

Data Management
Data would lie at the very core of the new decision support system. Data management would
act as one of its basic components that would be responsible for performing the function of
storing as well as maintaining information. It would encompass both the decision support
system information along with decision support system database management system. A
diverse range of data sources would be used in which the system would be based upon
including organizational information, external information, and personal input.
Data Types
The decision support system would hold different types of data. The first type of data that would
be integrated into the system is organizational information such as business reports, important
documents, financial statements, etc. The confidentiality of the data would be high. The next
type of data that would be stored in the DSS system is external information such as industry-
level regulations, documents by the federal government, etc. The final data type that would be
stored in the system is personal input, and insights. Each of these data types would play an
integral role to aid in the decision-making process.
Storage Methods
The data would be stored at a centralized level so that it could be easily available to all teams
and departments. The old information system was not able to carry out its functions effectively
as the data was stored in a decentralized manner, so that the data could not be managed in a
streamlined way. In the new system, even though a centralized storage option would be
adopted but the data would be compartmentalized into file drawer systems, analytical
information systems, data analytics systems, etc. (What is DSS?: Components and various
types of DSS. EDUCBA, 2021).

Data Quality
The key elements that would be focused upon in order to ensure the quality of the data that is
stored in the decision support system include consistency, completeness, accuracy, validity,
and timeliness. All the data sources would be checked to ensure that the quality of data of the
Information system is not compromised (Batini & Pernici, 2006).
Transition of System Functions
The transition of system functions from the old ineffective information system to the new
decision support system would be highly crucial. The proper transition process would ensure
that all the data that has been incorporated into the system is compatible and can be presented
in a uniform manner. The suitable transition strategy that would be adopted is gradual or phased
conversion. It would ensure that a systematic approach is adopted and the new system is
effectively deployed at all levels to carry out useful functions for the company (Batini & Pernici,
2006).
Evidence of Feasibility
Various organizations have built and introduced similar kinds of decision support systems that
have aided in better management of humongous volumes of data and streamlined the decision-
making process. Researcher Sutton has argued that decision support systems are effectively
used as important decision-making tools in organizations that operate in the healthcare setting.
They aid in supporting interactions and communication at diverse levels and thus aid in the
decision-making process. The ability of decision-makers to make timely and informed decisions
ultimately has a major implication on the organizational performance and the quality of service
that is delivered to the end-users (Sutton et al., 2020).
Thanking You
