Unique Course Features
Primary Course Objective
In addition to academic credit, this course is designed to prepare students to take the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) 300-135 TSHOOT
exam. The specific criteria to take the exam may include prerequisite exams or time in the profession. Students intending to take the CCNP 300-135
TSHOOT exam should review the requirements published by Cisco to verify that they meet the qualifications. Preparing to pass the CCNP 300-135
TSHOOT certification exam may also require optional exam practice that does not count toward students’ course grades. Successfully completing this
course does not guarantee a student will pass the certification exam.
CCNP Courseware, LabSim, and ExSim Access Codes
These digital items will be emailed to you directly from Boson. If you do not receive an email from Boson within two business days, contact
Lab Participation
You are allowed multiple attempts and feedback is provided within the Boson Environment at the end of each lab to help you understand where you
went wrong. If you do not complete the lab correctly on the first attempt, review the feedback provided and make a second attempt. If the errors persist,
take a break and attempt the lab once again. Contact your instructor immediately if you cannot successfully complete the lab after multiple attempts.
WritingAssignments
The objective of the School of Information Systems’ writing assignments is to promote attitudes and skills that will improve a student’s ability to
communicate in writing, develop research skills and documentation techniques, and encourage critical analysis of data and conclusions specific to the
course learning outcomes in the information systems and technology domain.
Attendance Policy
Assignments
This course uses the Boson platform for lab work. Boson does not directly record attendance, but attendance is recorded when you submit your work to
the assignment in Blackboard. Attendance is also captured by posting in the online discussions. Note: This policy is only for online classes. Ground
classes require actual attendance that will be defined in class by your instructor.

w10a3 - XYZ Company Troubleshooting and Maintenance Plan
Summary
Click the linked activity title to access this assignment. Submit the assignment, XYZ Company Troubleshooting and Maintenance Plan.
Text
Overview
Use the same scenario from the VLAN Troubleshooting Paper you submitted in Week 4. In addition, XYZ Company is heavily invested in e-commerce
at all retail locations with Point of Sale systems connected to maintain a dynamic inventory and automatically generate restock orders. The XYZ
Company engineers have configured the WAN-based intranet using IPSec to support all of these locations via encrypted VPN links connected to the
nearest regional distribution center.
XYZ Company has an enterprise network consisting of a core backbone, corporate campus, two data centers, regional distribution centers, and Internet
Edge with a DMZ. For better security, the retail Point of Sale system does not have direct Internet access. At the corporate campus, the
seven departments in the company include Finance, Operations, Human Resources, Sales, Marketing, Technology, and the Corporate Executive
Office. The company provides appropriate computing equipment to all of its employees. It also provides remote access for the system and network
administrators using company-provided encrypted laptops and two-factor authentication to access the XYZ Company network in order to provide off-
hours support.
Due to recent major security concerns in its campus network, XYZ Company redesigned the infrastructure so that it:
Implements VLAN segments segregating servers, workstations, and printers on separate VLANs.
Implements port security to protect against MAC layer attacks.
Implements firewalls between VLANs to protect against VLAN attacks.
Protects against spoofing attacks.
Secures the network switches.
Based on your prior success in other networking endeavors, your supervisor has asked you to write a detailed troubleshooting and maintenance plan
for your fellow network engineers for when they are on call. Additionally, this plan will be the template for the other system administrators to write
troubleshooting and maintenance plans for their areas of expertise.
Instructions
Write a 2- to 4-page paper in which you:
1. Describe the routing and switching infrastructure and the routing protocols used in the environment.
2. Illustrate the secure routing and switching infrastructure topology through the use of graphical tools in Microsoft Word or Visio, or an open source
alternative such as Dia. Include a depiction of all core elements of the routing and infrastructure topology using color-keyed symbols to indicate the
functionality of each item. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.
3. Suggest one overall troubleshooting methodology that you would use for your troubleshooting and maintenance plan. Provide a rationale to support
your suggestion.
4. Create the daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance processes that your fellow network engineers must follow in order to maintain the health of the
network. Provide a rationale to support your suggestion(s).
5. Analyze whether other system administrators can use the template of your plan to write troubleshooting and maintenance plans for their areas of
expertise. Justify your response.
6. Use at least three quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify as quality resources.
This course requires the use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). For assistance and information, please refer to the Strayer Writing Standards link in
the left-hand menu of your course.
The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment is:
Develop a troubleshooting and maintenance plan for a VLAN environment.
