I struggle with understanding the tax code and so I was not excited about this course at all. I did
find that during this course, I needed to review some tax codes for my job. I was able to write a
good tax form and send to our CPA firm. While it did need some extra work, I was able to provide
a bit of a head start and ended up saving us some billable hours. I am not sure if I will continue to
work on this aspect of things at my job but it did end up being an asset for me. I am moving into a
financial analyst position starting tomorrow so I am thinking my CFO is going to ask me to continue
to improve on this research in order to save us money. I will need to keep up on my research in
order to be able to do a good job. The best aspect of this course was learning the good tax form
and getting better at understanding tax codes. I am not sure that I completed any research that I
had not thought of in a tax perspective. I did not realize that some of the tax codes had so many
different parts to them. I know because of all the different scenarios out there that extra details
need included but I do think some of them are written just to make things difficult. I will say, at
the beginning of the course, I did not think that I would ever use this course for my work.
So, in the end, this course did prove to be beneficial to move my career forward and I appreciate
everyone's help in better understanding tax code. Best of luck to everyone in their future
endeavours.
This term has been truly enriching as we have developed our tax research skills, adding depth to
our professional expertise. Our journey through the tax research methodology course has been
nothing short of intense, interactive, and stimulating. We delved into critical topics, including a
comprehensive review of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, gaining essential insights into the
fundamentals of tax research and international tax policies. Throughout this course, we have taken
the roles of associates within a firm, immersing ourselves in the world of tax research. We have
tackled complex responsibilities, such as navigating business transactions like acquisitions and
understanding intricate tax inversions. We have learned the art of finding tax laws, interpreting the
tax code, and staying impeccably informed about ever-evolving tax regulations, all to deliver
superior value to our clients.
Our professor has been instrumental in our growth, guiding us with insightful questions and
facilitating valuable arguments during our discussions. The course has highlighted the significance
of understanding legislative intent in tax laws, while also offering practical pointers for effective tax
planning strategies. The emphasis on ethical considerations in tax advice and client communication
has been evident throughout our research and the preparation of memorandums and milestones.
Personally, I found the insights into IRS examination and appeals processes invaluable, as these
insights are clutch when dealing with audits. The practical projects and discussions have not only
enriched our understanding but also equipped us with hands-on experience, providing a solid
foundation for addressing real-world tax challenges, if you have not done so at this point.
I am excited to apply the skills learned by conducting meticulous tax research, offering expert
advice to clients on various tax matters, remaining vigilant about tax law updates, and adhering to
the highest ethical standards. This course has equipped us with the knowledge and skills needed to
excel in the field of tax accounting.
